Doctoral Seminar

Location and dates

The 11th EurOMA Doctoral Seminar will take place preceding the 19th International EurOMA conference annex the 4ht world conference on Production & Operations Management in Amsterdam on Friday June 29 and Saturday June 30, 2012.

Objective

The EurOMA Doctoral Seminar provides PhD students with a forum for presenting and discussing their research and an opportunity to get feedback from and exchange comments and views with fellow PhD students and experienced researchers in the field. The Doctoral Seminar is held once a year, just prior to the EurOMA annual conference.

Structure

The Doctoral Seminar consists of two 'classes' or years. In the first year, participants are invited to present their research design and preliminary results. This class is meant for students who are in the first year or early in the second year of their studies.

Students who took part in the first class will be invited to join the second class, one year after. In that seminar, the discussion will focus on results and preliminary conclusions (contribution to theory, methodology and/or practice of Operations Management).

Students are strongly recommended to attend the EDEN Doctoral Seminar on Research Methodology in Operations Management before entering the EurOMA series of Doctoral Seminars.

Certificate and credits

Upon successful completion of the Doctoral Seminar, first year's participants receive a certificate titled 'Research Design in Operations Management'. Second year's participants are awarded a certificate titled 'Research Results in Operations Management'. The doctoral Seminar counts for 3 ECTS.

Work mode: presentation, discussion and reflection

First year's participants to the EurOMA Doctoral Seminar must provide a written project description as part of their application for the Doctoral Seminar. Second year's participants must submit a working paper covering their initial findings and conclusions.

All participants are expected to present, discuss and reflect on their work to and with fellow-students and faculty.

Fee

Accepted students participating in the Doctoral Seminar should register for the seminar through the conference registration page. The fee for the Doctoral Seminar includes: a) participation in the Doctoral Seminar, the seminar dinner on Friday 29 June, lunches, coffee and refreshments; b) participation in the EurOMA conference, 1 - 4 July 2012, including admission to all scientific sessions, registration package and proceedings, lunches and refreshment breaks, welcome reception and conference dinner.  Fees can be found on the page regarding fee structure.

Application

To apply for participation in the Doctoral Seminar, first year's applicants must submit a short project description (5 pages) with name, project title, affiliation, and a recommendation from their supervisor. These two documents must be sent to Professor Pär Åhlström no later than 13 January 2012 by e-mail at par.ahlstrom(@)hhs.se.

Second year's participants should send an e-mail to par.ahlstrom(@)hhs,se  confirming their participation by 13 January 2012.

Notification and preparation

First year's applicants will be notified of acceptance or rejection of their proposal by 20 February 2012. Successful applicants will then be asked to prepare and submit, by no later than Friday 8 June 2012, a full paper (max. 25 pages) describing their research design (first year's group).

Second year's participants must deliver a working paper (max. 25 pages) covering the preliminary results and conclusions of their research no later than Friday 8 June 2012.

Faculty

A faculty of four - six renowned OM scholars will take part in the Doctoral Seminar, provide support and feedback, share their experiences, and engage actively in the discussions.
